Product Description

Sohmer & Co. was founded in 1872. Its main factory was built on the East river in Astoria, Queens, New York. Hugo Sohmer marketed the first modern "bijou," or baby grand piano, built with a symmetrical case design which he patented in 1884. "Only five feet long," these pianos were advertised as "the smallest grand ever manufactured, having "great power and volume of tone, together with the tone-sustaining quality and elastic touch heretofore only found in the concert grand." The company also patented improvements in agraffe bars and actions in 1882, and in 1887 an agraffe for a quadruple strung "reverbation scale" and a pianissimo pedal in uprights, and bridge agraffes in 1890. the Sohmer piano company has a rich heritage of building high-end grand and upright pianos. Famous owners of Sohmer pianos included Fred Astaire, Irving Berlin, William Randolph Hearst, Katharine Hepburn, and Eartha Kitt. Throughout it's history Sohmer built a reputation as one of the finest American made pianos and they were often compared to Steinway, Wm. Knabe and Baldwin.

The Sohmer company and piano scales and design were purchased by SMC Music Corporation and were re-introduced to the American market in the late 90's. Sohmer pianos. Sohmer grand piano models use maple for the outer rim. They employ the famous Pratt Reed Premium action along with hornbeam rails. They use solid brass hardware, forged brass pedals, and a sand cast plate. German Renner hammers and German solid spruce soundboards give the Sohmer 63F a rich tone that strikes a beautiful balance of warm bass and clear high notes. The grand pianos also include Agraffes. The agraffe is a guide at the tuning-pin end of the string, screwed into the plate, with holes through which the strings pass. It anchors the strings, ensures proper height and determines the speaking length of the string.

SMC Music discontinued the Sohmer brand and we were able to buy this piano b-stock from SMC music. A b-stock piano is a new piano that has been sent back to the factory for repair and has been refurbished to "like new" condition. These pianos were made in SMC's Korean factory, not the currently used Indonesian factory. SMC's finest pianos have been hand-built in Korea and are more expensive and have a higher attention to detail than their Indonesian made pianos. This piano is considered "new" but because of it's age does not come with a factory warranty. We were able to buy this piano at such a huge discount that you can buy a piano in new condition for a used price. This is Sohmer's most decorative cabinet. The French Provincial Cherry finish is hand rubbed lacquer and has beautiful hand carved legs and hand carved wood trim around the rim.

Pianos built like this today are hard to find. A piano with this level of hand carved work and in a 5'4" size would easily cost over $20,000. This piano retailed new for $23,995.00. We are offering this piano for only $ 9,995.00. This amazing piano will not last long and when it's gone we can't get another one. This gives you the opportunity to own a grand piano that is very rare at a price that is very low for a piano of this quality and beauty. We ship pianos internationally and we use a trucking company that specializes in open box grand pianos. We will personally deliver and tune the piano within a 500 mile radius. Trade-ins are welcome. Upgrade your piano for less than you would expect.
