Pop Improv features twelve improvisational concepts, each one illustrated with a piece written on the left page, followed by an improvisation model on the right page. All of the R.H. improvisation models are based on 5-finger positions as well as a simple 1-2-1 crossover fingering in some models to add melodic interest. The L.H. consists of fifths making improvising easy for elementary students of all ages. Includes a CD for students to play along with and be a part of a real band.
Pop Improv is geared especially to the elementary piano student. However, students at higher levels will benefit from and enjoy this book. There are twelve improvisation concepts featured in Pop Improv. Each concept is illustrated with a written-out piece on the next page, followed by the improvisation model on the right page. The primary purpose of the notated pieces is for demonstration, although more advanced students may wish to learn them as repertoire before approaching the correlating improvisations.
Some of the pieces may be at a level of difficulty that is higher than your student may have achieved so far. If this is the case, play these pieces for your student rather than assigning them for practice. It should be mentioned that this book, unlike some instructional books, is non-linear - you can change the order of the material to suit your student's individual needs.
