Not Just Restored.
Reborn to Steinway Standards.

These historic Steinway grands were brought back to life by one of Europe's most respected piano restoration ateliers - using the same parts that Steinway Hamburg specifies for their own instruments.

There is a particular kind of Steinway that no amount of money can simply order new: one that carries more than a century of tonal history in its spruce soundboard, yet plays with the precision and responsiveness of an instrument fresh from the Hamburg factory floor. That is exactly what Piano Gallery is proud to offer - and we are the only dealer in the Northwest United States carrying this caliber of European-restored Steinway.

Each piano in this collection was entrusted to a family-run Polish restoration workshop with roots going back to 1983 - craftsmen whose history includes manufacturing instruments for storied European makers including Bechstein, Blüthner, and Schimmel. Their restoration standard is not a compromise. Every completed piano receives final technical approval from a master technician who spent more than 30 years as the lead restorer at Steinway's own Hamburg center. These are not shortcuts. This is how it is supposed to be done.

When a budget restorer works on a Steinway, they use whatever parts they can source affordably - often generic felts, off-spec strings, and hammer heads that simply don't match Steinway's voicing profiles. The result may look impressive at first glance, but the tone and touch will betray it within months.

The European workshop behind these pianos sources the identical components that Steinway Hamburg specifies for its own production instruments: premium Renner actions from Germany, Mapes or Röslau steel core strings, top-grade spruce and maple from the same suppliers Steinway itself relies on. When the final instrument passes inspection, it sounds like a Steinway because - component by component - it essentially is one.

A proper Steinway restoration cannot be rushed. The workshop process spans four to six months for a single instrument: cabinet refinishing, soundboard reconditioning, complete action rebuilding, string replacement, regulation, and final voicing. Each stage is completed by craftsmen in Kalisz, Poland - a city with an unbroken tradition of European piano craftsmanship stretching back to the late 19th century.

That investment of time and skill is what separates these instruments from a "refurbished" piano. No piano leaves the workshop until it passes a final technical review by a former chief technician of Steinway's Hamburg restoration center.

Seasoned spruce - wood that has had decades to settle and stabilize - produces a tonal richness that simply cannot be manufactured new. The instruments in this collection have their original soundboards preserved and reconditioned, not replaced. Pianists and acousticians alike recognize this as one of the most compelling arguments for a properly restored historic Steinway over a brand-new instrument.

A century of vibration has opened these soundboards in ways that give them depth, warmth, and projection that a new spruce panel - however excellent - cannot yet possess.

A new Steinway Model B lists well above $100,000. A new Model A approaches $120,000+. The instruments in this collection - restored to Hamburg-level standards with premium components - are offered at $69,000–$75,000. That represents an extraordinary value proposition: Hamburg-quality sound and action, seasoned tonal character, and a 5-year restoration warranty, at a fraction of new-instrument pricing.

And unlike a new Steinway, these instruments will not depreciate the moment they leave the showroom - their historic provenance and quality restoration make them sound, lasting investments.
