Bösendorfer Silent Edition — Available to Order
The Silent Edition answers a question every serious pianist eventually asks: how do you play a Bösendorfer at midnight without waking the house. The answer is Yamaha's Silent SH3 system, integrated into the instrument without altering a single mechanical or acoustic property of the piano itself. In acoustic mode it plays exactly as it always did. In silent mode, a fibre optic grayscale sensor system captures every movement of your playing and sends it to the digital tone module, where you hear a binaural sampling of the Bösendorfer 290 Imperial through stereo headphones. The feel of the action does not change. The Quick Escape mechanism, unique in the world, ensures that sensitivity and controllability remain identical in both modes.
Two headphone jacks allow a teacher or duet partner to listen alongside you. Recordings can be made in both MIDI and audio modes and shared via cloud or social media. The system includes 25 dual sounds, 256-voice polyphony, built-in Bluetooth, and a metronome. Silent mode on a grand is activated by a single key press. On a Grand Upright, by the middle pedal.
The Silent Edition is available on the following Bösendorfer models:
- Grand Upright 120
- Grand Upright 130
- Grand Piano 170VC
- Grand Piano 185VC
- Grand Piano 214VC
